🦎Iguanas!🦎

Iguanas are fascinating creatures!

From the day they hatch out of their eggs, they have it tough. Their mom doesn’t stick around to help raise them like some animals do. Instead, these babies have to each themselves everything with no protection from day one! From day one, they have to feed themselves, protect themselves, and survive without any help at all.

And speaking of protection, iguanas have the fascinating ability to snap off their tails to distract predators if they feel threatened! They have tiny fractures in their bones and muscles that help make their tails fall off instantly with minimal bleeding, and the detached tail keeps wiggling to take the attention away from themselves and keep predators preoccupied, giving the iguanas the chance to escape. 

Some specific iguanas can change their color as well! While it’s not as drastic as a chameleon changes color, an iguana like the Green Iguana might turn from green to a rusty reddish-brown during mating season or because of stress hormones.

Another incredible fact is that Iguanas have three eyes! They have the two we see and recognize as eye, but you’d have to look harder to find the other one. It’s located on top of their head, and while it doesn’t function fully like our eyes can, it helps track shadows and light. This helps the iguana detect potential predators faster!

Just as iguanas have three eyes to see better and protect themselves, we need the Holy Spirit to help us discern what’s good and bad so that we can stay safe from sin.
